Leagues and tournaments

In the United States, the NFL has long been the most popular team sport, with more than 3 million regular-season members in the United States and Canada in 2006. The Football League also continues to attract fans worldwide through the development of its college football team, the Baltimore Ravens, which recently won the Super Bowl. The Atlanta Falcons are one of the most popular teams in the NFL, although the team's record is .500, not great for a long-term success.

The most successful NFL teams are the Atlanta Falcons, the San Francisco 49ers, and the New York Giants. The Falcons have won five Super Bowls, and the Giants won eight, but they have been eliminated in the playoffs each time. The Indianapolis Colts are in the middle of a rebuilding process, and they have struggled for the last decade. The Olympic tennis tournament has had a record of success. There were only two losses in the women's tournament at the 1932 Olympics. The American team lost to the Soviet Union in the quarterfinals.

In the men's tennis tournament, when it was played in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1932, the United States team won the first game and then advanced to the semifinals. The Soviet Union won the second game and advanced to the third semifinal. While there was an Olympic tennis tournament in London, in 1932, there were only three matches.

Olympic champion

The American team beat the Soviet Union in the final, which was played in Moscow. In the women's tennis tournament in London, in 1932, the United States beat the Soviet Union, but the Soviet Union won the next two matches. The United States won the men's tennis tournament in London. The Soviet Union won the finals and advanced to the semi-finals.

Half of the players on the 1932 U.S. team were immigrants from Mexico and Central America who would eventually become the first team of the International Football Association (FAI). The Mexican team was the last to compete in the Olympics. It was the first game played on a field ever built at the Olympic Stadium in Munich.

(The stadium was built in 1928, but the field was not used until 1932). The first time any club won the title of Olympic Champions was in 1936 when the United States, England and Germany won the football tournaments. The 1936 Olympic Games have been referred to as the "Milan Olympics." The U.S. team tied Italy for the most gold medals in Olympic history, winning six gold medals. The 1938 Olympic Games were the last time Italy won the title of Olympic champion. The 1932 Olympic Games was the first time a U.S. team competed in the Summer Olympics.
